it’s just like any other dream where one ‘hopes to be discovered’
either you have to know someone, or be extra-ordinarilly talented AND hope to get a million to 1 shot at being discovered by someone that matters- OR be super aggressive and either get kicked to the curb, or be given a shot eventually-
Trying to be an artist, actor, painter, photographer, designer etc all hinge on extra-ordinary luck simply because there are soo soo many people contending for the same thing that the person often gets lost in a sea of talent- A Drop i nthe ocean so to speak=—
people going to hollywood need to realize their chance of becoming a success are very very small, and also realize that the higher ups know htis and WILL use and exploit the hopeful to no ends-
Had a roommate in college who had connections in Hollywood. To even join the union, you had to know someone, or know someone who knew someone. He was able to join the union in NYC and made huge (for me at the time) money for just a few hours of work shooting advertisements. I think he did stuff like focusing cameras and clicking the board at the beginning of the shoot.
Once you got into the union, it didn’t mean you got work. Work was handed out based on seniority, but you did get the chance to work.
She needs to consult with Harvey Weinstein! That might do the trick (no pun).
