The Dems are trying to forestall a 3rd party run which would hurt them, particularly when the potential candidate is an attractive young socialist, Bernie supporter, with a bit of exotic pedigree and an eastern religion (Hinduism). They are afraid of Gabbard, because she has much appeal in the eyes of the minimally intelligent Dem voter. She’d take massive amounts of votes away from Biden, Warren, or their ilk.
