Strengthens the argument for suicide.
Also the fact that he finalized his will a few weeks before his death. That tells you he was either planning to commit suicide or expected to be killed. But if he was afraid of being killed he wouldn’t have had his lawyers request that he be taken off of suicide watch. To me this points pretty strongly to suicide.
The deal with the cameras not working and the guards not making their rounds can be explained by incompetence. We are talking about a government run facility here, after all.
Epstein’s fractured hyoid bone isn’t surprising since the hyoid calcifies with age and becomes brittle. There was a study of prison suicides by hanging and while it was rare for the hyoid to fracture, when it did fracture it was typically in middle aged men, which fits the Epstein case.
The only thing that bugs me is that his thyroid cartilage was fractured in addition to his hyoid. This is more consistent with a homicidal strangulation, but if that were the case there would be other evidence showing a second person did the deed — telltale ligature marks, etc — and the NYC medical examiner would have seen that. But she is sticking with her conclusion of suicide.
So at this point it seems to me that the least implausible explanation is suicide.
