When a Buddhist commits suicide they don’t generally
try to take others with them.

This is not to say Buddhists can’t be violent,
however it’s usually in self defense.

Agreed. If a Buddhist or a Hindu bought a house adjacent to mine, I’d sleep easy.

If, however, a Muslim bought the house, I’d be a bit more wary. I might even put a shotgun near the front door. Buddhists don’t go nuts and start hacking people with machetes. And Hindus don’t set off bombs to kill infidels. But Muslims...well, you know.

“... however it’s usually in self defense.”

I read a great article many years ago by a Buddhist priest in Boston. It was about how one of his students was very surprised that the priest had a carry permit and carried all the time. When challenged about how that seemed to conflict with his pacifism, he said that how could he claim to defend others if he was unwilling to defend himself.

That’s always stuck with me.
