[TX Gov.] Abbott Praises [Disgraced Speaker] Bonnen on His Way Out
Texas Scorecard ^ | 10/22/19 | Brandon Waltens

After Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen announced he would not seek re-election, Gov. Greg Abbott released a statement praising the disgraced speaker.

Bonnen’s announcement came amidst growing calls from Republican members for him to step down after an audio recording of a meeting with Empower Texans CEO Michael Quinn Sullivan revealed he attempted to make a quid pro quo offer of press credentials in exchange for the political targeting of certain Republican members.

But Abbott’s statement alludes to none of that and, instead, celebrates Bonnen for representing his district “with an unparalleled passion and vigor” and for “his commitment to making Texas a better state.”

Abbott also pivots to the 2020 election, saying, “All Republican House members have a list of accolades that makes them each worth of re-election” and that he would campaign with each of them, a far cry from just two years ago when he endorsed against some Republican members, including the pro-abortion State Rep. Sarah Davis (West University Place).

Gov. Abbott is turning out to be a disappointment. Despite having a commanding Republican majority in the Texas Legislature, not a single priority of the Republican Party was achieved under the leadership of Speaker Bonnen in the last legislative session. Gov. Abbott and the leadership appear to be working hard to protect incumbents including the RINOs. Seems like they are doing their part to turn Texas blue.

At least Speaker Bonnen is on his way out after one failed term.

That’s your warning about Abbott, don’t ignore it like you did with W. and Perry.

Abbot has always been a mixed bag, but he is still a huge step up from Sharia Law Rick Perry.

Alas, Abbot is also committed to maintaining a certain amount of built in government corruption. If you staked him out on an anthill like in some old western movie he would die in freakish pain before you could get him to croak out the words "Civil Forfeiture Reform. "

He is what he is and he has been strong on energy and employment.

It will be a political miracle if the TX GOP holds on to the state House of Representatives on November 3, 2020.
