No she doesn't have to, but if you don't you have the wheel and brake peddle fighting you along with other warnings. It's somewhat disconcerting while trying to become acclimated to a new cars handling, for her at least.

They don't bother me that much but what I hate is the engine shutting off at every stop light. While it might save a few pennies in gas that savings will be more than offset by replacing starter motors.

We rented a mini-van with that. After a while I was modifying my braking so minimize the engine going off. Became second nature after a few hours.

I am curious what features have you fighting the wheel and brake pedal.
