They never could find a recipe for nutria rats. The bounty on tails helped some. You still see the tail-less corpses along the highways there.
The only thing edible on a sea urchin are the gonads. But there are five of them. lol

This has been going on since at least 1971:
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2 (AP) —Scuba divers say they have killed about 800,000 purple sea urchins in a project. designed to make the sea safe for sea weed. The urchins have eaten most of the kelp that is the habitat of many other marine creatures. The Palos Verdes Underwater Restoration Project began operations yesterday with nearly 1,000 volunteer divers.
Better sea urchins pooping in the sea than street urchins pooping on the streets of San Francisco.
We used to bring a few up when we’d go diving. The roe is delicious.
This is a case for the one-eyed, one-horned flying Purple People Eaters.
I’d rather eat sea urchin eggs to save the planet than worms and crickets as some loony lefties have suggested.
Isn’t the word “urchin” both insulting to the Oliver Twist young homeless in California, Portland and Seattle as well as being soooo Old English?
