The Kurds have been fighting people off since before the year 1000. Hulagu Khan thought he’d gotten them all by destroying all kinds of buildings and killing every last person who came to him on their knees, begging to be spared-including the leader at that time.
Well, Hulagu was wrong. There are still Kurds and everyone around them has either fought them or had some kind of buffer zone.
The Turks are the most recent comers in terms of the last decade or more, but that inimical situation has existed probably ever since the Osmanliya, the original Ottoman tribe, came to power.
Why we think we can solve this is nuts. Pouring $$$ into the region is aimed at the nukes at Incirlik and the oil/gas field in W. Iraq. But let’s not quibble. Our State Dept. ‘experts’ are just hangers on, and having met one, I’d say it’s just the way it is.
In reality, this is Biblical, as well as historic.
