Devon and Cornwall is heavily rural and one of the whitest areas in the UK, nearly 95% white british and based on experiences with my Dad’s family who live around Colyton one of the most hostile to outsiders who are refered to as ‘emmets’ and ‘grockles’, even if they are from other parts of the UK.
They could really do with videos showing pakistanis how not to be racist here in the North West of England, which is very ‘diverse’ and only 85% white British (with some ‘white other’), with the ethnic minorities concentrated heavily in a few mill towns where they have critical mass to dominate those areas through fear.
My impression, from reading and TV, not actually living there, is that position of Chief Constable is a political one and one that requires a great deal of “political correctness” and not really held to local sensitivities. There was one a month or so back that openly stated that white male police candidates need not apply. And there was the reluctance to go after groomers lest they been seen as anti-muslim. A couple of days ago there was a Chief Constable decked out in rainbow symbols all over her uniform.
