Why did we go to the middle east in 1991 anyway?
To insure the free flow of oil at market prices until such a time as the US could become energy independent and an energy exporter capable of insuring our western allies would have a reliable energy supplier should the Soviet Union Russians and their client states cut off the supply.
To make money flow. Tax money is the easy money to steal. Have a war, and the security state has its imperative to spend tax money. Once the money flows, those who sit at the controls gety to skim a fee.
It's like the scam the banks and colleges run. When applying for FAFSA college grants and loans, suckers need to borrow from the banks to renovate their homes to show. The banks get the borrowing going to make the money flow so they can collect fees. Parents deplete their savings and students go into debt. It's the same scam to send our children to fight wars on behalf of others.
Bush took us to war to save a despotic kingdom from a despotic dictator. Despotism is the rule in Islamic lands. It got us 911 and more endless intervention. It wasn't a mistake in the minds of Bush and the deep state. It makes the war money flow and the fake patriot act security grow.

Because at the time we we still highly dependent on Saudi Oil and it looked like Saddam was going to keep rolling. We could not afford to have a Soviet client like Saddam controlling 1/2 the worlds oil. Remember this is still the era when the Soviet Unio’s Empire was dissolving.
Now that we finally woke up from 1960s radical environmentalism and are making ourselves energy independent again, and the Soviet Empire in Central Asia and Eastern Europe is gone, it past time we start re-thinking what really is in the USA National Security interests.
