Not to mention that JFK gave up our missiles in Turkey to get Russia to move theirs. Kind of a quid pro quo.
To be fair, he apparently was already planning to decommission those silos in Turkey even before the Turkey Deal pretty much required it thanks to them being rendered obsolete via the advent of nuclear subs, so it’s debatable whether that was an actual loss. Still a darn shame we had to capitulate to the Soviets and let Cuba remain communist, though, even if it DID mean thwarting Che Guevara’s mad desire for nuclear war.
