You can't be in radio without selling your soul to spots.Sponsors are always first, never second. We just don't realize it. That's why Rush will always tend to slide in a commercial whenever or wherever. It's what we are taught.
Anyone in talk radio is told more or less "we don't care what you do just get all the spots in."
In today's market with the internet sucking up more and more content it's even worse.
I can only imagine the pressure on the top talkers to slide in as many spots as possible. If you want to see how intense it can get listen to wiod 610 am in Miami the morning show with Jimmy Cefalo former dolphin football player and beloved in South Fla. No one combines lots of spots with loads of info for the South Fla. market as well as Cefalo. This guy is the best of the best.
I’ve enjoyed Cefalo on WIOD for a week or 2 every August. He once spoke of retiring, iirc, getting involved with wine making. We missed this August.....glad to her he’s still going strong. Did I understand correctly ?....i thought I heard him mentioning a pending retirement 2 or 3 August’s ago.
