I think you are on to something. I’ll add a perspective as well, using tick bites.
I get bitten by several ticks every year. No big deal. But I live in KY where the odds of a tick giving me lyme disease are very remote. But if I lived in the northeast, I would want to avoid being bitten even once at all costs. The likelyhood of a tick giving me lyme disease there is MUCH more likely, by a couple of orders of magnitude.
So the analogy is having sex in the 60’s was like getting bit by a tick in KY, and having sex today is like getting bit by a tick in the Northeast.
Another comparison...
