I was there recently for a conference. My hotel was about 5 blocks from the convention center. During my walks, there were homeless everywhere. One guy was walking around with his pants down and his bare @ss sticking out. Several times, I passed women screaming obscenities at the top of their lungs in the middle of a busy sidewalk. I had to step over barf and smelly mystery liquid several times. I didn't see any obvious human feces, but the fact that the business owners along Powell Street and other streets nearby had to power wash the sidewalks in front of their stores/restaurants every morning told me all I needed to know.
It's a half-step from third-worldism there.

So that was 40 years ago. So whats the point?The passage in the article that really got my attention (a passage that hinckley apparently overlooked), was the one about LA being "inhabited by politically and socially conservative Middle Americans". Was that true back then, fellow FReepers?
