Beto O’Rourke: If You Don’t Hand over Your AR-15 We’ll Take It
Breitbart ^ | 10/16/19 | AWR HAWKINS

Posted on 10/16/2019 6:58:42 AM PDT by Enlightened1

During the October 15, Democrat debate Robert “Beto” O’Rourke made clear that AR-15 owners who refuse to hand over their guns will have them taken away.

O’Rourke reiterated his plan to use a government-mandated buyback to confiscate privately-owned AR-15s and AK-47s. In so doing, he claimed that each AR-15 and AK-47 in private hands is a “potential instrument of terror.”

CNN’s Anderson Cooper then asked O’Rourke how he plans to get people to hand over their rifles.

O’Rourke responded by explaining that he expects complains with the mandatory buybacks. He said, “I expect my fellow Americans to follow the law. The same way we enforce any provision, any law that we have right now, we don’t go door to door to do anything to enforce the law. I expect Republicans, Democrats, gun owners, non-gun owners alike, to follow the law.”

Cooper then followed up by asking what O’Rourke plans to do if Americans do not comply.

O’Rourke said, “If someone does not turn an AR-15 or an AK-47, one of these weapons of war, or brings it out in public and brandishes it, in an attempt to intimidate…then that weapon will be taken from them. If they persist, there will be other consequences from law enforcement.”

"Beto's response during the debate last night was (paraphrasing) that he believed in the American people and that they would voluntarily proffer their AR-15s and AK-47s"

Of course, Beto can't show where this mass voluntary compliance has ever happened before. It didn't happen in Connecticut or New Jersey. It didn't happen in New Zealand. When bump stocks were outlawed only about 1000 of the over a million out there were turned in.

"There is no gun registry. Beto was asked that last night on stage."

But from a realistic standpoint, I've got a bridge to sell anyone who thinks the background check records are all really being being destroyed as required. I guarantee a database of everyone who's purchased a gun from a FFL dealer is being maintained. Guaranteed.

Every time an FFL is not renewed, for whatever reason, the ATF comes to the place of business an collects all official records of that FFL. This includes all original copies of Form 4473. I know this because in the 1990s I had an FFL. When I did not renew (Clinton changed the rules) they came to my house. Does anybody believe those forms are destroyed?

I sure would love to see this jive ass punk come and try to take my 1911 Kimber, 870 Remington Shotgun or hell, even my .177 pellet gun.
He’d be the one eating dirt, not his wife.

Well, maybe so. But my wife and own 3 guns from before all this BS about gun registration started. They work just fine.

First off, none of these gun-grabbers will ever get elected. Beto has zero chance. Many democRATS own guns and wouldn't give them up. Long before anything would happen, some group, the NRA or individual citizens would be filing lawsuits to declare this policy unconstitutional. The 2nd Amendment is a basic right in the Bill of Rights. Not to be infringed upon.

So you say, the liberals will just amend the constitution and remove the 2nd Amendment rights. Long-drawn out process with little chance of success. In the meantime, some sanity would be restored with the election of a president who would put a stop to this insanity.

Still the logistics of confiscating guns, even if there is a "list", gets a little dicey when you start getting into the details.

Who will do it? Not enough law enforcement with time away from fighting crime on a daily basis to go door-to-door to tens of millions of homes to take them away. The military? I don't think that would ever happen.

What if the law-biding citizens are unwilling to give them up? Are they going to arrest and jail everybody who refuses? Not enough jails or prisons to do that. The courts would be clogged for decades.

And what if they don't get any cooperation from gun-owners, are they going to start shooting and killing them? This are not your kitchenware they'd be asking you to turn in. These are deadly weapons. It could get real ugly real quick.

There will be gunfights and blood shed and people dying in refusing to give the government their guns. The American people will not tolerate that level of tyranny from their government in the face of giving up the weapons they rely to defend themselves. The very reason we won our freedom from the British in the revolution to begin with.

You see where this is going? NO WHERE.

Just look to New Zealand and their liberal prime minister's banning of guns. The turn-in rate is dismal. Nobody is giving up their guns voluntarily either. It won't happen in America.

I don't believe there's a Dem on that stage last night who disagrees with what Beto is proposing in the slightest, most just won't admit it in public. Since Beto knows he doesn't have the chance he sees himself as the one to try to normalize the concept. If they got a veto proof majority they may try to implement it. However, the practical difficulties you raise could easily put a stop to that. I think ultimately their best strategy would be to outlaw the manufacture and transfer of all semi-auto rifles. Since transfer would prohibit the existing guns from being sold or given away upon death they would have to be turned in to the state when the owner died. Thus, this would just be a way to confiscate incrementally by delaying it a generation. If it is successful then the same tactic would be used on handguns. Repeat and rinse until all guns have been banned. However, I'm not sure they have the patience for this. They see now as the golden opportunity to implement their socialist take-over so I don't put anything by them.

The very ones who maybe should give up their guns are the very ones who will have most likely already broken the law & aren’t worried about doing it again. The legal guns are protected by the Constitution, but Beto may have to be reminded forcefully concerning that.

No. You and your wife own NO guns. Really. They were destroyed in the big bonfire incident in 2017. Really. Any evidence to the contrary is merely illusion.

I get your drift. In a practical sense, no one knows we have these guns.

Of course, we live a rural area and raise beef cattle on a farm in Florida. We use them for killing critters like possums and armadillos and viper snakes.

".... If it is successful then the same tactic would be used on handguns. Repeat and rinse until all guns have been banned...."

The liberals are so focused on the AR-15s and AK-47s that the miss where most of the gun violence in this country comes from....handguns.

Not the random or occasional shootings with the AR-15s that make for more sensational press and make it sound like gun violence has gone up in this country, when in fact the FBIs own statistics show that gun violence has been going down for years.

Almost all criminals use handguns, not long rifles, for their crimes and that is where most of the gun deaths occur. They're easier to conceal and use nefariously.

Do you really think that criminals will be turning in the tools of their trade, illegal handguns? No way. They're already criminals so what do they care if it is illegal to have the guns they use?

So as is the usual case, liberals' solutions to things means they miss the mark and don't accomplish what they think will happen when they come up with these lame-brain ideas. Unintended consequences always follow liberal-implemented ideas.

They just see the AR as the easiest, low hanging fruit to go after now. Notice how the meme went from Assault weapons to semi-automatic Assault weapons to semi-automatic weapons.

Just what liberals always do. They keep moving the goal posts if they don't get their way.

I mean look at what they've been doing trying to get rid of Trump.

First it was the electoral college was unfair and he shouldn't have won because Hillary had more votes. So let's get rid of the electoral college.

Then is was the Russian collusion epic fail that turned up empty-handed.

And now this flimsy Ukraine phone call impeachment stunt.

You can't fault them for not trying dirty every trick in the book.

The also continually change the language to accomplish their goals. They’ve tried to change the term for fully automatic military machine guns (Assault rifles) to include all semi-automaic firearms - something civilians have been using for almost 100 years.

They went from gun control to the softer sounding gun "safety" for a while too.

Just look at their evolving language on climate change.

Global cooling to global warming to climate change to climate crisis to climate emergency to whatever.

I had a lady tell me at a potluck around the community pool in a townhouse complex I lived in in Arizona, that she was not longer a liberal but a progressive.

I almost spit my drink all over her trying not to laugh.
