White House, Pentagon, Giuliani reject House subpoenas

The White House, the Pentagon and President Trump's personal attorney Rudy Giuliani on Tuesday all refused to comply with House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry subpoenas, escalating the fight between the administration and Democratic lawmakers.

Democrats set a Tuesday deadline for Defense Secretary Mark Esper, Giuliani and the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to turn over documents related to Ukraine.

Three House committees also requested Vice President Pence hand over documents by Tuesday, though no subpoena had been issued.

The refusals from top administration officials were unsurprising after the White House counsel's office sent a letter to top Democrats last week making clear that the administration would refuse to cooperate with the impeachment inquiry.

Matthew Morgan, counsel to the vice president, wrote in a letter to the three committee chairmen that Pence would not comply with their request, citing the lack of a vote establishing formal procedures for the impeachment inquiry and questioning the fairness of the process.

A letter from Giuliani's lawyer to the House Intelligence Committee dismissed the subpoena, saying it is "overbroad, unduly burdensome, and seeks documents beyond the scope of legitimate inquiry."

The Oct 17 mention by Biden bothers me. The deep state is willing to try anything to keep power.

1. The House Judiciary Committee considers evidence,(issues subpoenas), holds hearings, and if necessary, prepares articles of impeachment – the actual charges against the official. 2. If a majority of the Judiciary Committee votes to approve the articles of impeachment, the full House "debates and votes" on them. 3. If a simple majority of the House votes to impeach the official on any or all of the articles of impeachment, then the official must then stand trial in the Senate. 4. If a two-thirds supermajority of the Senate votes to convict the official, the official is immediately removed from office. In addition, the Senate may also vote to forbid the official from holding any federal office in the future. So far from what I understand, they have been keeping this from the Judiciary Committee who has the sole power to conduct all of this including subpoenas, making the whole thing illegitimate. And for it to proceed it would require a full vote from the Judiciary Committee which would include the GOP minority.
