A murder warrant for Aaron Dean, the Fort Worth officer who killed Atatiana Jefferson, tells what led up to the shooting from the perspective of her 8-year-old nephew, who was in the room with her when she was shot.
The boy told a forensic interviewer that he and his aunt were playing video games together about 2:30 a.m. Saturday when she heard noises outside. She took her handgun from her purse and pointed it toward the window before she was shot, the nephew said, according to the arrest-warrant affidavit.
The 8-year-old saw his aunt fall to the ground. Jefferson, 28, was pronounced dead at 3:05 a.m.
Interim Police Chief Ed Kraus said at a news conference Tuesday that it makes sense that she would have a gun if she felt that she was being threatened or there was someone in the backyard.

Locally we had two very similar events this week.
The cops reacted the way I described.
The only difference is that really bad guys were involved and they ended up dead after a considerable amount of time was spent attempting to negotiate a solution.
But it demonstrated that properly trained cops do not shoot people before they know who is what.
Im this state, as in most, the courts take the position that you can not plead self defense if you are in you home and the bad guy is still outside your home.
Many a person has gone to jail for shooting through the door (outside door) at a person who has not yet breached the door.
So the answer to your question is that she would have been tried and convicted in almost all states. Texas is different and a Texan will need to answer for Texas.
Maybe we need to expend more effort to preserve it?
Why hope it lasts only until you die?? Do you have children?
We have the tools to turn things around, first in the Gospel and secondly in our own families. Most conservatives and Christians are still turning them over to the Enemy (government schools). We can all contribute something in both these areas
What position do they take when the bad guy is outside your home aiming a gun at you through the window?
I have not read of such a case, but it would be interesting. If you know of one, please give us the link.
However, my gut feeling is that in my state the LEO’s would take the position that you should get away from the window and call 911.
That does not represent my opinion so knock off the flames.
in my state the LEOs would take the position
In most states, the official "LEO" position is that mere "civilians" should curl up in a fetal position, let the bad guys murder, rape, and rob them, then call the skilled trained professionals (hah!) to take a report.
And you don't seem to know what "flames" are ...
The law in most states is clear that you can not shoot a person just because he is in your back yard.
The way the question was framed, the occupant of the house would have shot first. Therefore there was no immediate threat and the shot would have been unjustified.
Now on the other hand, had the shooter in the yard shot and missed, I suspect that self defense would be a justified position. However what would happen in court would be a crap shoot, pun not intended.
I suspect a hot shot prosecutor would take the position that the shooter missed and that all the homeowner needed to do is get away from the window and call for help.
Remember, Nyfong was not the only unscrupulous prosecutor.
So in your tiny bootlicking mind this woman was a low life? She was shot dead in her own home by an idiot who never announced himself or why he was there. I keep forgetting that there is a group on here who believe anyone who is black, Hispanic, Asian or non Anglo must be a low life, and all cops are fine upstanding citizens who must be worshiped and given all benefit of the doubt.
exactly who are you describing as a lowlife ? . Please, tell us. Who are you calling a lowlife and please be specific as to why.
