I thought threats and attacks were already illegal. The only reason I can see for the FedGov getting involved in this is for situations where a guy living in Seattle threatens a news organization based in some other state. Other than that, it’s a simple state issue.

If they make it a specific federal crime, then the feds get another swing at the perp should the state muff it. Recall the charges against the Los Angeles policemen where, when the state proceedings didn’t pan out as they wanted, the feds pursued them on federal crimes.
