Horse cookies, kids can’t go to sleep because they do nothing but play video games, text or look at memes. It may seem like it is not possible, but in Middle school when I was there, my parents had me going to bed by 8:30 and we went to sleep within a half hour. Up at 7, walk the 20 minutes to school on regular days. Or on basketball mornings, would leave at 6, walk to school, play a shortened game, then classes, then a PE class. After school, basketball, or baseball, or riding bikes. Football without helmets.
I see kids now, they only thing they exercise is their jaws. Either talking, or eating. Judging by the shape they are in, mostly eating. School would be better served having a boot camp with mandatory attendance. Get the kids in early, and work them out for an hour before every day. They will learn then, and not how to sleep in and be a schlub.
Your last paragraph shows you’re not nuts!
I think a good bootcamp style workout would be very good for kids. I know of a private baptist high school in Everett, WA where they really work the boys. A mother told me she’s so grateful that her boys are exhausted and go to bed right after supper and sleep well all night long.
