A black Texas woman was shot and killed by a white Fort Worth police officer who was called to the woman's home for a welfare check, authorities said.
In a statement, the department said it received a call at 2:25 a.m. reporting an open front door at a residence. Responding officers searched the perimeter of the house and saw a person standing inside near the window, according to police.
"Perceiving a threat, the officer drew his duty weapon and fired one shot, striking the person inside the residence," the department stated. In body camera video released by police, two officers search the home from the outside with flashlights before one shouts, "Put your hands up, show me your hands." One shot is then fired through a window.
Officers entered the house and located an individual and a firearm, and began performing emergency medical care.
The department released bodycam footage of the incident "to provide transparent and relevant information to the public as we are allowed within the confines of the" investigation, it stated. Any video taken inside the house could not be distributed due to state law.
The neighbor who called 911 about the open front door told Fox 4 the police officers didn't announce who they were or knock on the door before searching the outside of the house.
"When I made that non-emergency call, I didnt say it was a burglary. I didnt say it was people fighting. I didnt say anything to make them have a gun. All they needed to do is ring the doorbell, James Smith said.

Everything depends on the body cam video.
Amazing how the news can describe the race of everyone when it fits the narrative.
Why didn't you?
Theres more at play here. This wont be good for the officer. I believe he fu.
Shoot anything that moves. Nice pilicework.

Yep. All in the very first sentence too. But when the facts dont fit the prog narrative, theyre either buried deep in the article or (more likely) omitted altogether.
Woman in window of her own home a killable threat? Sounds like murder to me.
A year to the day of that Dallas officer.
The training for these officers is turning out cops that are flat out a menace to the public at large. The Dallas PD should be held accountable. The training these officers are receiving is putting everyone in danger of being killed indiscriminately.
We need a complete overhaul of what we the public want and expect from law enforcement. Police departments the country over have completely gone off the rails. They are far far more dangerous than the criminals. Civilians can protect themselves from criminal thugs but not from the police.
Whoa, I leave my front door, and patio door open all the time I like a breeze, especially this time of year.
*** The Dallas PD should be held accountable. ***
Not Dallas. Next door in Fort Worth.
Lots of gaps in the story.
An open door at 2:25 am. A call for a welfare check.
Officers entered the house and located an individual and a firearm, and began performing emergency medical care.
If your door’s open at night, you have a gun, and your in your house, you’re going to die.
It does seem that way. Poor training.
My door sticks sometimes and doesn’t latch right. Then the wind pulls it open a bit after a while.
As I said earlier:
I try everything I can to defend LEOs but this one I cant defend, and sadly its becoming a pattern among LEOs.
Bad shoot, period.
The cop didnt bother ringing the doorbell or knocking on the front door first.
The cop didnt bother announcing himself as a Police Officer.
The cop walked around to the side and backyard at night with a flashlight prowling around IN THE SAME MANNER AS A BURGLAR.
The cop saw the LAWFUL RESIDENT of the home IN HER BEDROOM, and doesnt finish barking the order to Show your hands before he MURDERED her in her own bedroom.
Even if Johnson had pointed a weapon at the cop, the cops failure to identify himself BEFORE prowling around the yard at night gave her every RIGHT to point a gun (and shoot at if need be) the cop.
Give this POS that Ft. Worth is calling a cop as much of a trial as he gave Johnson before putting him in front of a firing squad.
Lousy cops like this one just give more ammo and credence to those out there who call to have LEOs completely disarmed like the Brits did to their cops.......
Until LEOs as a whole work to ACTIVELY purge their departments of those persons who are not fit to be cops, this movement will only grow stronger until they are no longer given a choice - and it will only put the lives of those LEOs who are good and honorable in danger.
*** Who in the hell is training these officers? ***
In the past, both Dallas PD, and Fort Worth PD have sent officers to train with IDF, who I consider to be one of the most unapologetic brutal agencies on the Planet.
We have militarized too many Law Enforceent agencies.
*** My door sticks sometimes and doesnt latch right. Then the wind pulls it open ***
I have one of those, too. So far, only the neighborhood cats have wandered in, instead of trigger happy LEOs.
The only thing this report makes clear is that the cop was a white man and the woman was black. Nothing else!
“Cops are a menace!” Was this one? I don’t know enough to say.
“The cop felt threatened.” Was that reasonable in this case? I don’t know enough to say.
Sorry. I’ll wait to hear more before I form an opinion on the incident base on this article alone.
I do find it interesting how clear the writers we’re about the races. They certainly saw no reason to dance around that. Not the way they often seem to when the races are reversed.
