A look back at the predictions of looming disaster economically. Yup mr marxist we surely do suck huh? Things have gone to crap in the time since this article was written. NOT! Shockingly (/s) the 'new school' is a "progressive" university in nyc. Anyway, just another reminder that we need at least 4 more years.

Wolff WAS fringe for most of his seven decades on this planet.

No more. His belief system is now approximately where the center of the Democrat Party lies.

And once enough of us meet the Grim Reaper it’s going to be majority thought in this country.

“worker co-ops”

And what happens if I refuse to go along with the co-op’s BS? Re-education camp and execution, I guess.

worker cooperatives–a business structure in which the employees own the company, and share decision-making power over salaries, schedules, and where profits are directed.

Ah...so these employees put up their own money for the company? They finance their ownership, and then get to make decisions about how to handle payroll and direct profits?

Well, that sounds exactly like capitalism!

Or...do these "employees" gain "ownership" through some other means? Does the government step in and "acquire" these companies, and then assign these co-op employees?

Because that's NOT like capitalism.

Sorry, Wolff, but profit is the incentive for dynamic individuals such as Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Jeff Bezos to build up a business which makes millions of people prosper. If the state owns the business, any profit goes to the state, removing any incentive for building up a massive, profitable business.

Capitalism leads to prosperity. Yes, some people have more money than others! Talented, intelligent, dynamic, hard-working people make more money than stupid, indolent ones.

The left hates that. It is obsessed with “equality”. To achieve “equality” it will take most of the money earned by the dynamic ones and give it to the lazy, ignorant ones, thus removing any incentive for future Bill Gateses to create a huge business starting in their garage.

Being a prominent Marxist economists during his 50 year career one would think he would have wanted to live in a socialist or communist country for a few decades to demonstrate his political convictions. But of course he opted to spend his career here.

I bet he has concocted some elaborate excuses for not leaving. After all, life in the “oppressive” USA is good. He resides in Manhattan, the very epicenter of capitalism.

The end of capitalism started quite some time ago. But nobody wanted to see it because they might have to be responsible give up government goodies. Businesses would have to make it on their own capabilities.

Capitalism (free markets) not working? Lol! We’ve never actually tried it. Our system has always had far too many government controls to be truly free market. Just think what we could be!? The very same people that have kept us from real unencumbered prosperity, now want to shackle us with Marxist socialism. Go figure!?

Most of the worker co-ops will get tired of voting on minutiae such as which soap dispenser vendor to use, and will finally vote to hire as professional management team.

They’ll decide to get additional funds for investment from public capital markets.

And voila- the modern public corporation is reborn.

“...worker cooperatives–a business structure in which the employees own the company, and share decision-making power over salaries, schedules...”

Although not a co-op, I worked for a few years under such a system. It was at a state juvenile prison (we called it a “youth center”). It was decided that it would be progressive to eliminate all middle management and have the staff manage itself democratically. Our unit (cottage) consisted of a dozen “youth specialists” (guards), three teachers, and a “group leader” (counselor for the little criminals).

The guards thought it unfair that teachers (who made more money) got to work regular hours, so they made the schedule so that every couple of weeks we had to work weekends and pull a graveyard shift overnight as well as our regular teaching shifts. The guards, not being certified teachers, couldn’t take teaching duties, so we had teach after the all nighter.

In addition, our group did our official evaluations, so the guards got to evaluate our teaching abilities. Of course any negative reaction to all of this lowered your scores. The staff meetings resembled what you saw out of Red China back in the day, with people going out of their way to praise the group.

Worker’s democracy is wonderful, I tell ya.

A “Marxist economist”

Is that a joke? Like an “atheist preacher?” Or “military intelligence?” Why would anyone let a Marxist teach economics? Show me a wealthy, prosperous country practicing Marxism.

I thought that what was distinctive about the new breed of socialists is that they are not Marxian, at least insofar as they reject doctrines of historical and economic determinism.

In other words, they are Veblenites.

Capitalism is like Gravity, its just a law of economics. You can fight it, cover it up, or use it, but it is always there.
