I totally agree that the federal government should be decentralized. Fed employees love working remotely, that is until you actually ask them to work from areas outside of DC. At that point they suddenly cite the need to be “at the office”.

Frese traveled quite a bit. Every month or two, he could be found hiking Kilimanjaro or sipping beer in an Eastern European capital, visiting London or the low countries, Morocco, Berlin, Australia, all in the space of a year or two. It was quite a travel experience for a lowly federal employee. Perhaps it was work-related, all those different destinations. Excessive foreign travel can be a marker for a national security risk.

Personal story: My uncle passed in Pa in 2010. I drove up from Fl for the funeral. You recall there was a big financial recession ongoing at the time. Got to the DC Beltway. One would think we were in boom times. Mega dollar autos all over, no one worried about anything it seemed. Even looking at the home prices in the local listings did not seem like a problem for anyone, surely not like elsewhere where it was not uncommon to see foreclosures up and house prices sometimes off by 30% or more. It was even happy times because the Dem savior was in office.

The old adage that those that can do and those who cannot teach needs an addendum: those that cannot teach or go to work for the government in DC. Note I said in DC, many of the low paid G employees I have met in the hinterlands actually seem to know what they are doing but they are led by the dem sympathetic slugs who reign in DC.
