Is Trump leaving any advisers behind? Are we prevented from arming the Kurds at all?
The SDF has been armed and trained to fight some tough bastards. By US Special Forces.
And they already have the finest small and medium arms in the world thanks to US supply.
I hope that if we leave any advisory forces behind they are embedded with the Syrian Army and the Russians.
But I would rather we bring everyone home and let the environment achieve its own equilibrium.
Supporting IS and Turkey in Syria is one of the darkest marks in US history. I have nothing but disdain for those who perpetrated it.
I’m not sure the Kurds need advisors. What they need is air support. There’s no reason that cannot continue from carriers and elsewhere.
The president just wants our ground forces and compounds out. My guess is that a major concern is the US must monitor every flight anyplace in Syria to ensure it isn’t going to make a high speed 10 minute diversion to one of our locations to deliver some kind of bio or chem attack...even conventional ordnance.
And, of course, there is the danger of ground attack against any compound, convoy, or recon team. It is true that no American can drive into any town for coffee and a donut. They’ll be killed. That’s the “peace” we also have in Iraq and Afghan. After 20 years, that’s the best we’ve got.
My Christianity tells me Islam is ultimately doomed, but in the meantime, the fanatics are still blowing themselves up.
