One of my pet peeves, and has been for years, is people who put up abbreviations and assume we all know what they mean.
Now pause a moment and let me explain more.
I understand this is the Internet, a mostly verbal medium, a prone to abbreviations. FWIW is a common phrase. LOL is also.
But PKK? Look up thread, a commenter used it and I must suppose he or she assumed we knew what it means.
From now on, when somebody uses an abbreviation that is not commonly used I am going to respond with my own made up abbreviation.
Which is what I did. UFG is my made up abbreviation.
Because why not make up my own abbreviation? I know as much what PKK means as I do UFG.
I don’t want to be nasty or cause a fight. But darn I wish people would stand back and read their often very informative and likeable posts and consider some dummy like myself reading it.
I still do not know what PKK stands for.
So I made up my own abbreviation. I don’t know anymore what PKK means so I will use my own.
So it’s kind of a joke but thanks for your input Syncro.
I know most often-used abbreviations on posts. I am a frequent online writer. But sometimes we go overboard.
My UFG is a reminder of that.
If it seems important I will look them up.
PKK, I don't know what it stands for, but I do know it is the abbreviation used for the Kurds.
Or at least the Kurds that Turkey et al consider terrorists.
UFG is a good one, really looks like it means something LOL!
In this case UFG = Used For Good...
Thanks for the reply!
Everybody knows YKK!
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party or PKK (Kurdish: Partiya Karkerên Kurdistanê) is Kurdish militant organization which has waged an armed struggle against the Turkish state for cultural and political rights and self-determination for the Kurds. Turkey’s military allies the US, the EU, and NATO label the PKK as a terrorist organization while the UN,[140] Switzerland,[141] Russia,[142] China and India have refused to add the PKK to their terrorist list.[143] Some of them have even supported the PKK.[144] vía wikipedia

“From now on, when somebody uses an abbreviation that is not commonly used I am going to respond with my own made up abbreviation”
Heh, that’s a pretty clever thing to do.
I once met someone who used MSU after her name.
Example, Syncro, MSU.
Ppl think it relates to a Univercity but it just stands for Making Stuff Up.
I’ve had fun with that.
So has Dr. Zoo...
(kind of taking the thread off topic here, but it’s pretty much run it’s course so why not bump it to the top with small talk? We may get a TMI heh.)
