I am really concerned: our country seem to have little value for allies - like Vietnam. People will be watching - and one day when we are begging for friends and allies, will they remember the USA as a worthless friend? At the same time, how do we ask our fellow countrymen to go die or get maimed for foreigners in “foreign adventures”? I’m torn!
I’m also concerned because even if we do try to aid the Kurds directly, how would we do logistically for supplies?
And given that the Russians are just waiting for us to overextend, what might they do in conjunction with both the Syrians and the Turks? The Iraqis seem to distrust us - they thought we were involved in a recent air attack on an (Iranian?) militia they support. How would we get supplies to the Kurdish region when there is no land link and no safe port?
That anti-air radar/missile system (S400) that Turkey bought from Russia is reportedly very effective - Iran has the same system and has already shot down one of our drones - so their radars must be pretty decent. Even if we have the political will to support the Kurds, can we?
If Turkey goes into Syria, they go it alone. Much of our effort that emboldened Erodgan was when the U.S. was working out of Turkey. The U.S. is leaving, international support for Turkish intervention will dry simultaneously.
Syria is a Russian ally. So where the U.S. moves, out, Russia backed forces move in where we leave. Including air defenses. Against air attacks, Russia could employ is own defensive combat air patrols.
Basically, the U.S. leaves, and Russia moves in where we left. Turkey is not going to risk fighting Russia by itself. Because the U.S. involvement is gone, and Syria has not attacked Turkey, Erdogan can not drag NATO into this.
Assad's regime survives, borders go back to much as what they were before.
Which is fine by me since overthrowing Assad was an incredibly stupid idea. He was a threat, but he was a contained threat. There was no need to remove him in am incompetently managed war that killed up to a half million and created five million refugees.

I don't recall the source right now, but IIRC it that Biden was the one running the U.S. side of the Syrian civil war. So much of the mismanagement is his fault.
But, since I posted earlier on this thread, I have seen and heard reports that cause me to believe that the Kurds will not he hung out to dry.
I think that Trump has some political capital that gives him somewhat of a “trump” card over Erdoğan, I believe over economic concerns.

I shoulda looked it up.
I grew up in Baltimore when it was a beautiful town. Moved to Delaware in my 50’s.
Have been involved in politics sporadically.
My “acquaintance” with Nancy Pelosi began when I was 11. It stopped when I was around 12.
My father was a shop steward at Carpenters local 101 in Baltimore.
Pelosi’s father was Mayor of Baltimore during much of my childhood, Mayor D’Alesandro. Her brother was also Mayor for a period of time.
My father would be given carpentry jobs to fix up Mayor D’Alesandro’s house in Baltimore’s Little Italy. He would take me and my brother along to help pick up building trash, etc.
Nancy was around her mid-teens at this time. I don’t think she ever said a single word to me but why should she have? I was just a bratty kid of the help.
But I got to see her in action. She’d wrap her father around her finger to get her way. Her mother would tell her no and she’d sweet talk her father.
And that is about the extent of my “relationship” with Nancy Pelosi but it nonetheless happened.
As for Beau Biden, I was working the Delaware state fair for the Republican party. As these things go the Democratic party booth was directly across the aisle from us. suddenly my Republican partner points out to me “There’s Beau Biden!”
And sure enough Beau stops at the Dem. party booth and talks to them. I watch the action, intrigued.
About a half hour later I snuck outside for a cigarette. And suddenly guess who joins me?
He introduces himself, tells me he is the son of our senator, which I knew. We smoke and he reminisces about his Dad, tells me funny stories about him. In those days we did not videos on our phones, not even able to take a picture. He really got into poking fun at his father. He knew I was a Republican so I dunno, I guess he felt he had a chance to make me laugh with tales of his father.
And I say softly, I was not an ugly woman if you get my drift. I suppose one might say there was some flirting.
But it ended with a smile and, for me, a pleasant memory.
Beau Biden was a very nice young man but a terrible, terrible AG....terrible.
As for Oprah....she had her first hit show on Baltimore TV. She had me in for an interview about Parents Without Partners.
No big deal.
Well none of them are a big deal but still they are in my memories.

While traveling many times on the Tea Party circuit, I got to meet a lot of people whose names were/are prominent.
Gingrich, Palin, Romney, McCain, Bachmann and others who were in the running in the primaries.
Not much interaction, but I got a lot of signatures on my hats!
Oh and interesting to note at this time, her father Mayor D’Alesandro, and other adult members of Pelosi’s family were a major crime family back then.
Bratty Nancy is certainly carrying on that tradition quite well...

Oh, about the D’Alesandros being a crime family, I forgot this story.
Mayor D’Alesandro used to meet my Dad and a bunch of electricians at various Baltimore precinct polling places. Understand this was way back in the day. The electricians used to be able to ZZZZZAAAAAAAPPPPP something or other (I was only 8 when I witnessed this) and change all the votes I dunno, maybe change, maybe cancel them out.
So you got to know this kind of stuff was going on as long a 60 years ago.
And Oprah’s show in Baltimore was “People Are Talking”. It’s where she began. She used to even do the evening news.
No, I’m not famous or even known by famous people but did grow up and even now live in a very political place.
Not that this is necessarily a good thing.
Oh, and when Nancy D’Alesandro was young, maybe 18 or so, she won Miss Baltimore Fire Babe or some such.
