It would do uswell to go through the Smithsonian’s early archives and re-authenticate everything. They had some seriously shady and political stuff going on very early at that Institute. What happened to the skeletons of giants that were reported far and wide in the late 1800s? Not just in pulp magazines, but in books written by clergyman and scientists. In most cases, evidence was sent to the Smithsonian and never heard from again.

Some of the reasons for the “disappearance” of so many American artifacts is they didn’t fit the prevalent theories, plus Smith was married to an indian and did not want to cast them in any possible bad light, there was also some Christian religious reason of the time, I believe, for the hiding away.
