Turkey is also a NATO member and would call on the alliance to defend it, Russia doesn’t want that.
BUT Erdogan, being a madman, is also headed towards war with Greece (a fellow NATO member) over Cyprus and if that happens Russia can come to the defense of a fellow Orthodox country without NATO being able to do anything and Assad will kick Turkey out of Syria.
Greece has a very large military and that will alter the scenario significantly.
I can hear the Turkish screaming for protection from NATO when Russia drops the hammer on them in Syria.
Russia has an Air Force and a Navy base there.
We should tell Turkey. You started it, and you will now deal with it yourself.
Keep in mind Turkey is doing this after their economy is collapsing.

We need to get the Hell out of NATO.
Turkey and most of the EU are NOT our allies.
Spare me, Russia and Assad have been able to bomb six year olds with barrel bombs and cause refugees to flood Europe, they are no power to worry about.
Can’t abandon the Kurds. Trump should make sure they have up to date weapons and drone technology to defend themselves.

Also, if this plan goes forward will introduce Senate resolution opposing and asking for reversal of this decision. Expect it will receive strong bipartisan support.

NATO is not going to step to the defense Turkey in Syria. Russia would have to go into Turkey to trigger NATO. They are NOT going to do that. Even without NATO, It would be a disaster for Russia to invade Turkey. The losses and military embarrassment would destroy Putin.
Even in the remote chance of a war between Turkey and Greece, there’s no chance Putin would step into it.
