Trump orders new national security adviser to make ‘substantial’ staff cuts: report
New York Post ^ | October 5, 2019 | Mary Kay Linge

President Trump has instructed his new National Security Adviser to make substantial staffing cuts to the 300-member National Security Council, according to reports — after years of Republican complaints of agency bloat and overreach.

Two administration sources told Bloomberg News the order was timed to the arrival of National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, who took over Sept. 18 from the ousted John Bolton.

But the move comes as the administration grapples with an impeachment investigation centered on NSC activity — an inquiry touched off by a whistleblower who is rumored to have worked on the NSC’s Ukraine desk during the Obama administration.

On Friday, Trump retweeted a post from investigative reporter Paul Sperry alleging that the whistleblower was involved in Ukraine-based investigations into Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“Where is the LameStream Media on this?” the president asked.

The NSC staff, which numbered around 100 during the Clinton and Bush administrations, swelled to 400 full-time members under President Obama.

In 2016, Republicans in both houses of Congress introduced bills that would have slashed the NSC staff to no more than 150, legislation the Obama administration opposed.

Trump’s order will be carried out mainly by attrition as staffers rotate back to their original positions at the State Department and other federal agencies, and not by layoffs or firings.

I would fire them ALL !

***************

Trump should have downsized the executive branch big time when he came into office. There were way too many people left in high positions where they could undermine him. And they did at every turn.

Trump is good at moving the ball forward but he’s been a disappointment as an administrator. Its ironic that the man so well known for saying “you’re fired” was so reluctant to cut the fat within his own bureaucracy. JMHO.

yes indeed. a super tragedy since it did appear that PDJT had an opportunity to do swamp draining... and basically mostly has NOT

a super tragedy... for USA... (and for PDJT, since it is largely some swamp alligators who have been trying to undermine him)

Totally agree.

It IS killing the country. We are no longer anything near the country I grew up in. We are no longer the ‘United States’, that’s for sure.

Fire/cut any registered Democrats as a beginning.

Of course that might not leave any so called workers on the payroll.

That would be a good thing.

That means presumably to get rid of the likes of Fiona Hill (already resigned), who George Webb presumes is the second “whistleblower”.

Agreed. But presumably at least there won’t be somebody else filling their old positions and they will be a little further out from the center of power, whereby they can do less harm—as they are undoubtedly mostly of the Democrat/Never Trump kind.

past rules and laws have hampered him in that regard. But he should of just ignored them and done what he was elected to do and dared the congress to impeach him if they didn’t like him doing what the American people elected him to!

I would of closed every overseas military base on day 1 and moved every single solider currently overseas to new bases along the US/Mexico border and then ordered the troops to start building the wall regardless of what any court said and dared the congress to stop me with removal if they dared.

THAT’S my only gripe with Trump! is that he hasn’t done ENOUGH!

LOVE YOU PRESIDENT TRUMP!

the truth is.. unless congress is willing to remove a president from office (which they have NEVER done). A president, any president, has unlimited power.

That’s just a fact.

And we need to stop caring about “impeachment” which is about as important as a liberal calling you a bad name without removal also.

************

True but never trust a Republican congress. The party is infested with weak and unprincipled people — at best. Consider that the GOP allowed Paul Ryan to effectively resign and hang around for another eight months to undermine Trump. The rank and file let him do this. The Repbulican controlled senate has yet to a single thing to investigate Spygate. Absolutely nothing.

Despite the outrageously unfair crap thrown at this president the GOP has been, for the most part, disgustingly quiet and passive. Situation normal for them.

takes a 2/3 super majority to remove a president. Sorry, not nearly enough RINO’s to reach that bar by a looooong shot.

Trump is safe and he knows it, and the closer we get to the election.. the safer he gets because his argument ... “let the people decide” will become stronger and stronger as time goes on.

Looks like NSC has a core employee staff and a shitload of "detail" employees temporarily assigned from other agencies. IOW, the other agencies have too damned many employees as well, if they can loan some out for a year or two at a time.
