A plane I have seen at several airshows. Sad to loose a piece of our history. Prayers for the victims.

This is totally tragic. If it doesn’t slide into the fuel trucks/tanks, they all walk away.

Was this one of those flights one can take?

They had a B-17 doing that recently at an airport near me.

My uncle was a tail gunner on one in WWII, got hit, he bailed out and spent several months as a POW

He had PTSD before anyone knew what to call it. Sweetest guy, but prone to violent outbursts out of the blue

Hard to believe that anyone survived this crash.

Yes. My husband took a ride on this very B17 several years ago at Boeing field. His Uncle was a Bombadier on one during WW2 and died after getting hit over Germany, but landing in Sweden and dying in the hospital.

I was in this bird with my 11 year old a year ago... I am overcome with sadness for the pilots and the passengers. So sad.

I’m sure some of the survivors were terribly injured. It’s a miracle anyone survived. Pray for their recovery.

Those were not fuel tanks.

Per reports the plane slid into where the de-icing equipment is stored.

I was just on this plane a few weeks ago when it was here during the EAA Airshow. It was based at Chicago Executive Airport (Palwaukee) where I was inside it.

What a terrible tragedy for everyone involved. Prayers for those who were lost.

This is from a local article here in Humboldt county California

“The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is one of several historical planes owned and operated by the Massachusetts-based Collings Foundation, a non-profit that stages “living history” events with the goal of teaching Americans about their heritage. The organization’s “Wings of Freedom Tour” — which includes the plane that crashed today — has made several trips to ACV providing a unique soaring opportunity to hundreds of Humboldtians over the years. (The Lost Coast Outpost has participated in two such tours in recent years.)

That plane visited our town every two years for a long time now. It has flown over my house several times. It’s a very sad day. It was a powerful connection to the dedication of so many brave people. Great sadness for those who were lost, and for those they leave behind.

B-17 “liberty Bell” crashed and burned in Illinois 9 years ago. Now “909”. Bad times for historic aircraft.

I have footage of this B-17 from air shows at Selfridge Air National Guard Base and it’s my best B-17 stuff...Such an unfortunate loss of life and demise of an iconic historical artifact.
