So much for Princeton University being a good school. If they are teaching/working at this level the statistics are the easy part. They are just frauds.
Oh, the humanity! Couple of days ago the theory that eating man-food like beef and pork causes cancer was blown up by a huge, international study conducted over many years that found zero (that's with a "0") contribution to cancer risk. Big story on it by Gina Kolata in the NYT, no less!
The only palliative the editors could muster was a final, boring 3-4 paragraphs on how maybe people should STILL not eat beef and pork because all the cow and pig farts from farming our food will make the world end by global warming.
No, really. The story ended with that. AND NOW THE SCIENTISTS ARE TRYING TO TAKE AWAY OUR GLOBAL WARMING, TOO?
Btt
Did Michael Mann (the (horse)hockey stick guy) do the “statistical analysis”?
I have learned way too late on life that those who are paid for their knowledge are not also priveledged to have independent thoughts on said topic
An oversight, a one off no doubt /s. Err no, Michael Mann the Grandfather of Climate change is a proven fraud and lost in Court just a couple months ago to that effect. Of course few no that as it was buried.
My message for Dear Comrade Laure
Statistics aren’t that difficult.... Your “error” makes an objective person go hummmm??
At the very least an embarrassment for the “prestigious” Princeton. Nice job!
Send your own congratulations.

found major errors AKA lies
“In small clannish fields like climate science the rule is now not peer review but pal review.
They all know each other, and there is great mutual backscratching taking the place of critical evaluation.”
You are absolutely spot on, and there are a fair number of ‘clannish fields’. Further, the ‘connections’ go beyond reviewers etc. The web of connections includes insiders at the NIH and other government agencies. Insiders in positions of influence have a lot of ways to ensure favorable reviews and to direct grant money to their friends etc.
“These people are research grant whores.”
Yes. They are often self-promoting careerists who travel the world on tax payer-derived grant money, philanthropic money, and money from universities who generally don’t pay taxes.
