Trump, preoccupied with spitting nails over House Democrats' latest impeachment development, hardly seemed to notice.

No need to read any further than that. I saw the end of the press conference, which is what they are referring to, and, A., Trump was rightfully pissed at the media, and, B., he did notice what the Finnish president said and with his usual diplomatic skill did not call him on it publicly.

I doubt that it bothered him that much anyway. They were off to discuss things privately right after the presser. This is lefty-media spin.

Soviets could not control Finland... the Winter War and the Continuation War. During Winter War the US and UK aided the Finns against the Russians (during the Ribbentrop Molotov Treaty). The Continuation War was part of the split of nazis and Soviets, and the Nazis helped the Finns expand and aid operation Barbarossa. It was the Finns defeats of the Soviets that convinced hitler to invade russia and break Ribben/Molotov pact. That the soviets were poor fighters, etc.

Finland repaid all WWI debt to the US, as well as the mandated 300 million to Soviets for damages done to them (once they became our erstwhile “ally” spying the crap out of the brits and US in fact, lying all the time). And Finland also repaid all the debt of WWII for US assistance and UK assistance.

The current interest of US has to do with NATO and also the coming Brexit, Italexit, and certain other EU country’s leaving. 70% of Finlands imports are mandated to come from EU. They’d like cheaper more plentiful goods from US and UK and out of the EU. This the only country that ever paid the US back its war debt. Strategic.

I didn’t see him doing that in this case. Not at all. It appeared to me that Niinistö’s ire was solely pointed at the media.

Ya, keep poking fun. Its because of people like you that we are going to lose our trade agreement supplying all of our nation’s canned reindeer meatballs. Then what?!?!

Sounds like spin to me. The same people who interpret Trump’s call to the Ukrainian president as a quid pro quo are interpreting the Finnish leader’s comments as a troll.

The Finnish leader seemed like he just wanted to get out of the press conference in one piece. He did mention his belief in the various multi-national organizations like the WTO, and noted his acceptance of their rulings. Of course when you run a tiny nation what else can you do?

The Finnish leader probably wished Trump wasn't given the opportunity by the press to once again indicate his displeasure with European nations failing to pay for their own defense. What President Trump had to say about the USA ending up as the sucker who overpays is not something any European leader wants to hear.

The press people were an embarrassment to themselves and our nation. They really seemed petty, arrogant, and much in need of the criticism President Trump sent their way.
