During the sentencing phase of Amber Guygers trial on Tuesday afternoon, prosecutors highlighted past texts and social media posts which showcased racist and violent tendencies.
Guyger, a former Dallas police officer, was found guilty Tuesday morning of murder in the shooting of 26-year-old African American accountant Botham Jean in his own apartment. Last September, Guyger entered Jeans apartment, one floor directly above hers, thinking it was her own, and shot him in the chest before realizing the error.
Despite objections from Guygers defense, Judge Tammy Kemp allowed jurors to see the texts and online posts.

I bet she gets 7 and is out in 3. That ain’t so bad.
If you’re going to leave racist material around on the internet, it’s a good idea not to walk into a black guy’s apartment and shoot him to death.
It kind of explains things... if she was dumb enough, as a police officer, to post those type of thoughts, then it sort of makes sense that she wouldn’t take the time to think through whether she should shoot the guy or not.
Jury has announced they have decided Amber’s sentence.
We should know within a few minutes.
If you read the texts instead of assume, it’s probably unfair. The one text about a racist german shepherd maybe, the others are just police wisecracks.
Was there any evidence this was a racial shooting? The texts are mostly just piling on.
AMBER SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS
Yup. She pushed the lever down and jumped into the toaster.
Yes, it does.
As I understand it, in Texas the Jury may participate in the sentencing after it convicts the Defendant, if the Convicted asks the Court for a Jury determination of sentence.
I believe the Jury was just informed of these Social Media comments after the conviction, but not before.
“Jury has announced they have decided Ambers sentence.”
My bet is if it is that quick it will be long.
AMBER SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS
How does she get a fair trial when everything was about race.
After the verdict, S. Lee Merritt, an attorney for Jean’s family, called the murder conviction a “huge victory” not only for the victim’s family but also “for black people in America.”
What time do the riots start tonight?
The case was weak if they had to play ‘you’re a face-book racist’ card for a conviction.
Sure it was a bad shooting, negligence. As a police office, that group is center stage for black drama...their honest opinion counts if society is going to change for the better.
30 years ago she would have been off the police list for a variety of good reasons...thank you social engineers for your latest 2 victims.
How does she get a fair trial when everything was about race.
****************
I’d doubt the jury heard much of if any race talk.
10 years.
Accordingly, she walked into the wrong apartment and claimed she thought she was in her own apartment and discovered an intruder, thus shooting him dead. What about her apartment door key? She claims she entered his apartment by mistake and that begs the question; does she normally leave her door unlocked or did her door key also fit that of her neighbor’s apartment door? She’s a cop so I seriously doubt she left her door unlocked and I seriously doubt her door key fit her neighbor’s door. Also, she must have forgotten what her furniture looks like. She’s guilty as hell!
The entity Constitutionally charged with providing a "Fair Trial" is the Jury. Hopefully they will do their duty.
The Officers of Court are charged to Follow the Law as written.
The jury didn't see those posts until after they convicted her. The Facebook posts were introduced only in the sentencing phase.
