But, if you consider this paragraph carefully … Flip it over. I wonder if President Trump realizes that he isn’t necessarily the King here. Perhaps it is more accurate that he (and the deplorables) are the ones who have struck at the King (the establishment, DS, whatever you prefer to call it).

The question I would ask is - has he struck hard enough, and is he willing to deliver the KB? Because if he isn’t, he (and the rest of us) would do well to remember the consequences of failure.

Interesting perspective.

My vote for Trump in 2016 was basically a last-gasp throwaway. American politics, which had given us a wide range of leaders over the years, had dumped the absolute dregs on us. It was getting difficult to even recognize which one was the “lesser of evils” guy. If the hildebeast prevailed the nation I revered would be no more.

Trump has exceeded every expectation and I can’t wait to pull the lever for him again. He isn’t a politician and doesn’t pretend to be. He is a statesman who is righting the ship of state.

The problem with analogies is that they are almost always force-fit and thus inapt. I don’t think Trump harbors any illusions as to his status quo or his mission. Whether putative king or usurper to the throne, he is the consummate outsider rejecting the long established (dis)order. Should he miss the mark it won’t be for lack of trying. And I’ve never seen anyone continue to gain ground with as many dragging at him.

“A Republic, if you can keep it”

My own personal opinion is that PDJT sees the "political elite ruling class" for what it is: they think they're better than the rest of us and should tell the rest of us poor peasants how our lives should be run.

I think PDJT resents that mentality as much as I and so many of us here on FR do and is pretty hell bent on taking it down.

I will say this: PDJT is doing exactly what I'd hoped he'd do when I voted for him. That means righting the economy, getting the government off our backs and tear away the political elite institutions that have been built up over decades and decades.

I'll crawl over broken glass and weave my way through a firefight if necessary to vote for him again in 2020. Zero doubt about it.

Interesting take, I haven’t considered this angle....

[I have given this more thoughts.]

If Trump and us Deplorables are (were) the rebel that tried to take out the King (UniParty and Established Bureaucratic Gubmint, add whatever you like), it seems clear to me it is NOT going to be solved by an “easy” election or two.

I sure hope we are not Don Quixote tilting at windmills.... yet the alternatives is do nothing, just going with the flow. It is unthinkable. I’d rather go down fighting.
