While you’re right that the democrats don’t want Biden as their 2020 nominee, I think that their biggest motive for the Ukraine hoax is to deflect attention from the Barr/Durham/IG investigations into the origins and perpetrators of the Russia/Trump collusion hoax.

To continue with this line of reasoning, I think that the current furor not only deflects attention, but also puts the politicos from the countries being contacted by Barr and Guiliani on notice to not cooperate. I think that the Ukraine president realized that he was in over his head regarding American politics, after so many question directed at Trump were mostly politically motivated. The Ukraine president wasn't going to be caught up in the American politics side of things, but I think he was agreeable about cooperating with the Ukraine hoax investigation. After all, he did say that he didn't think that there was anything inappropriate in the call by Trump to him back in May.
