IOW, just who are we actually dealing with? Who really holds the power? Seems like a pretty good candidate would be extremely wealthy people who own the media. Bezos is one. Zuckerburg. If they own the Rats as well their power is secure. Money without power is just a liability. So what we have her are corrupt oligarchs who are above the law. “Deep State” is one term that implies they are government employees which is sort of ridiculous, really. Government employees doing the bidding of folks like Bezos.

I agree...the root of it all is oligarchs or some facsimile thereof. Politicians are bought and serve masters *cough* big donors *cough*, certainly not voters. Someone like Trump comes along, and like Jimmy Stewart in the classic Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, he must be crushed.

The business of DC is politics. Note the number of individuals in power who have their families working for the government or some lobby group or foundation sucking on the government. It involves both parties. Trump is the biggest threat to power in DC since the British in 1812. Others who did not have their claws in the mix or attempted to get their place in the sun got clubbed by the inbred media: Nixon and Carter come to mind. There should be a sign on every roadway leading to DC: Outsiders not welcome. There are two scenarios either one would change the culture some. Nuke the place from orbit. Obviously not going to happen. Move the capitol to the middle of the country. I nominate Cheyenne Mountain or Offutt AFB as perfect, somewhat secure and away from the crowd. Most of the life long creatures of the Potomac would not move so we would have a breathe of fresh air at least for awhile. The best part would be turning off the power and water utilities and watch that scum try to make it on their own.
