The al-Shabab armed group claimed responsibility for Monday's attack at the Baledogle base located in the Lower Shabelle region, about 100km (60 miles) west of Mogadishu.

Why is Somalia??
Trump tweeted about this attack 45 minutes ago. He’s really on top of things. Again, no newspaper coverage online. I saw it on GMA with Gayle King.

Tell all freedom loving Somalies to leave Somalia as soon as they can, and give them some time to do that, and even help them do that, but also tell them that at some point in time Somalia will be no more.
A country that continues to be a dysfunctional state as long as that has been true of Somalia - decades - is a country that cannot be governed. The bad parts are so endemic that each succeeding new start is filled with enough bad parts to descend the land back into the chaos.
There is no cure. Somalies have to go where better governments will control their worst instincts and not let them bring their chaos with them.

Stop giving Somalia (and the other countries there) money & “free stuff” and the problems will solve themselves.

No. The government will just get it from other major powers seeking influence, and it will still find its way to the warlords and terrorists among the population. WE are not the problem, no matter what we do or don’t do. So the bad guys in Somalia will still export their piracy, thuggery and terrorism.
We are not the problem as our aid there is easily replaced.
There is no cure.
Most (don’t know the number) country in Africa has fallen to the loss of private property and living by handouts. You are right about the thugs & warlords. They’ve grown powerful by abusing our largesse then using that power to s**t on everyone else.

My ONLY point about the “free stuff” is that that is not the problem, in the sense as if our giving it is THE problem. Because were their governments and dictators not getting it from us, there are plenty of other powers in the world seeking to buy influence in Africa, that their governments would just get it from someplace else.
Am I trying to say that as a rationale to keep giving Somalia that aid from us? No.
It’s just that us removing our aid should not be thought of as a cure. Our aid is easily replaced, particularly by those competing with us for influence in world affairs. I truly don’t think there is a cure for a place like Somalia.
