If the gop betrays us like that, that is the end of the gop. dems would run the table in the 2020 elections. Who are you going to vote for after that event, some third party? There will be a new party in 2022, if voting still matters then.

The smart, but risky move, would to declare that the Senate will take up the “TRIAL” after the 2020 election is finished in order to allow the electorate to have a say. Use the Garland rational. If PDJT wins the election then the electorate has decided that the article of impeachment are of no concern to them.

The risk is that for 14 months the Dems and MSM will be 24/7 with off the wall allegations and spin. The Senate could counter that by holding hearings concerning the specific facts behind the articles of impeachment, somewhat like a trial court holding pre-trial hearing to determine if the charges will go forward.

I don’t think they care. Most republicans lean left anyway. There is very few who actually fight for the base. Most hate Trump voters as much as Dems.
