Kidnapping is a real issue there. If you have a large amount of money in a local bank, beyond a few thousand, the wrong people are going to know it. If for some reason you can’t keep your main bundle in the US, at least keep it outside Mexico, or whatever third-world country you are residing in. Don’t be a target. Your private finances may not be as private as you think.
A friend of mine and his wife would spend Jan and Feb in San Miguel.
I would look after their house while they were gone.
They loved it there, but stopped going about 4 years ago because of Americans being kidnapped and held for ransom.
They go to Italy now, and avoid Sicily because of the Muslim invasion of Sicily. - Tom
