LET THEM GO AHEAD AND IMPEACH TRUMP.... HERE'S WHAT HAPPENS THEN......

By: Hyram F. Suddfluffel, PhD, (Political Science) I have a degree in Political Science, and I am a card-carrying Libertarian. I've been studying politics and political history for the past 30 years. My specialty is U.S. Presidents. That said, I hope that the House of Representatives impeaches Trump. Let me tell you what will happen next!

1. The House can pass articles of impeachment over the objections of the Republicans, and refer to the Senate for trial. 2. The Senate will conduct a trial. There will be a vote, and the Republicans will vote unanimously, along with a small number of Democrats, to not convict the President. Legally, it will all be over at that point. 3. However, during the trial, and this is what no one is thinking about right now, the President's attorneys will have the right to subpoena and question ANYONE THEY WANT.. That is different than the special counsel investigation, which was very one-sided. So, during the impeachment trial, we will be hearing testimony from James Comey, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page, Bruce Ohr, Glenn Simpson, Donna Brazile, Eric Holder, Loretta Lynch, Christopher Steele, Hillary Clinton, John Brennan, James Clapper, and a whole host of other participants in this whole sordid affair and the ensuing cover up activities. A lot of dirt will be dug up; a lot of truth will be unveiled. Finger pointing will occur. Deals will start being made, and suddenly, a lot of democrats will start being charged and going to prison. All this, because, remember, the President's team will now, for the first time, have the RIGHT to question all of these people under oath – and they will turn on each other. That is already starting. 4. Lastly, one more thing will happen, the Senate will not convict the President. Nothing will happen to Trump. Most Americans are clueless about political processes, the law, and the Constitution. Most Americans believe that being impeached results in removal from office. They don't understand that phase 2 is a trial in and by the Senate, where he has zero chance of conviction. Remember, the Senate is controlled by Republicans; they will determine what testimony is allowed -- and **everything** will be allowed, including: DNC collusion with the Clinton campaign to fix the election in favor of Hillary, the creation of the Trump dossier, the cover up and destruction of emails that very likely included incriminating information. They will incriminate each other for lying to the FISA court, for spying and wiretapping the Trump campaign, and for colluding with foreign political actors, especially George Soros.

After the Senate declines to convict the President, we will have an election, and Trump will win. It will be a backlash against democrat petulance, temper tantrums, hypocrisy and dishonesty. Even minorities will vote for Trump, because, for the first time, they will see that democrats have spent 2+ years focused on maintaining their own power, and not doing anything at all about black murders in Chicago, homelessness, opioids, and other important issues that are actually killing people. And, we will spend the following four years listening to politicians and pundits claim that the whole impeachment was rigged.

So let's move on to impeachment.

No I don't, I think this is the end of the republican party. The scenario I see play out is that after Trump is removed, conservative voters will punish the gop. The democrats will pretty much run the table in 2020 elections.

I should add that I think a new party will arise in 2022 with a vengeance.

Trump will have a 60% approval rating. Americans love a fighter. only a couple republicans will vote to convict him.

So you think these GOP senators are so mentally challenged that they won’t realize they are voting for their own termination too!

The only one I see maybe doing that is Romney!
He might be able to convince himself that he has his Utah voters in lockstep due to his church.

I don’t think the voters of Utah would reward him no matter what their bishops say!

The fact is the trial can be about whether Trump was falsely accused and can get into the “whistleblower” report and also whether the Bidens were in fact engaged in unethical behavior. Make the trial about the Democrats and the Bidens.

However, during the trial, and this is what no one is thinking about right now, the President's attorneys will have the right to subpoena and question ANYONE THEY WANT.

I think this person presumes too much.

Impeachment and trial are nothing more than additional procedures in each chamber, and the Constitution says that each chamber makes its own rules. This applies to impeachment and trial, too.

The author assumes that the trial will operate like a criminal trial in a court of law. That is not true. The President might not get an open-ended opportunity to call witnesses. The calling of witnesses is just another "rule" that the Senators (alone) will negotiate before the trial begins.

The minority will fight hard to prevent the President from calling witnesses at all. The (weak and feckless) majority will likely give in and limit the number (and subject) of witness that Trump may call. They may even limit the number of days the President has to defend himself. They may even limit who can represent him.

In other words, the Senators can stack the trial any way they want to, as it is nothing more than another "rule" in their chamber.

It is not a sure thing that Trump will get a fair opportunity to defend himself.

All nice in theory, but I have no confidence there is a competent Senator to act as lead questioning Attorney. Now if the Republicans can farm that out, then a big maybe this might be how it unfolds.

No, I think the deep state allegiance is bigger then party or country for the political class.

It’s like gun control: while they hope it will happen, they know it won’t but find it a great fund raising issue.

It may take 2 election cycles to fully get on the ballot, by then it won’t matter.

That's good, if someone can be found to charge them.

No that’s not right. The SCOTUS has no control over impeachment. They are only there because the VP who is over the Senate would pose a conflict of interest. It would be up to the Republicans, and there’s enough of those rats that will also be exposed and going to jail as well where Trump innocence means nothing to them. Trump will be seen as the one declaring war on them. They will get with the D-craps and finish it for Trump. Then Ken Burns Civil War Part II will start.

The senate is not going to let Trump do that. They will make him stick to defending himself against the articles of impeachment. This is a political process, not a leagal one. Trump really has no rights here, the senate and SCOTUS makes the rules as they are needed.

The fact is that Pence would be 10 times worse for them than Trump.

Ya, I wonder about that to. It could be after 2020, they will control the election system the same way they have the intelligence agencies and justice department now.

BTW. During the trail, NO SENATOR is allowed to speak on the floor. The trial will be presided by the chief Justice of the supreme court.

They have to sit there as jurists and make their decision as a jury.

What spines? Republicans don’t have spines.

Spines are not the only body part R's are missing.
