We are in the geologic period called the Quaternary a period of cyclic continental glaciations. We left one major glaciation roughly 22,000 years ago. We are in a “warming lull” - civilization happened. Humans have no control over this.

In addition to that, we’re on the downside of the interglacial period. Most last @18,000 years, with some a little shorter or longer, so there’s about 7000 years to figure out how to stop a mile-high ice sheet from scrubbing Chicago off the face of the earth.
