There are still 12 House Democrats who don't support impeachment proceedings. Why?
CNN ^ | 09/27/2019 | Chris Cillizza

In the past week -- amid allegations that President Donald Trump abused the power of his office for personal political gain -- there has been an absolute rush among House Democrats to call for impeachment proceedings against the President. What was once regarded as a risky position, politically, has now become a default position of the vast majority of the Democratic caucus.

But interestingly, it's not the position of the entire caucus. Yes, 223 House Democrats are on the record supporting an impeachment inquiry. But 12 holdouts remain.

Why? Good question! As (almost) always in politics, the answer to that question is, well, politics. Of the 12 holdouts, 11 represent districts that Trump carried in 2016. Trump's winning margin in those 11 ranges from quite narrow (+1.5 percentage points in Rep. Lucy McBath's suburban Atlanta seat) to huge (+31 in Rep. Collin Peterson's rural western Minnesota seat).

The one outlier in the group is Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (Texas). Trump lost Johnson's seat by 61 points in 2016.

Johnson is a bit of a unique case as some outlets -- including the Texas Tribune -- count her as in favor of impeachment. CNN does not because, in her statement on the subject, Johnson made her support for impeachment conditional. "If the decision is made by the President and his Administration to withhold this information from Congress, or if the allegations of his abuse of power are substantiated, I will be placed in a position where I must fulfill my constitutional duty and support impeachment proceedings," she said. The whistleblower complaint has now been turned over to Congress so it remains to be seen where, exactly, Johnson now comes down on impeachment.

Because Nazi Pelosi hasn’t threatened to walk into their offices, naked, yet.

Because they’re not quite as batshit crazy as the standard democRAT today.

Because they’re treading some kind of fine line back in their districts and want to be reelected.

It’s easy to be for the inquiry. That is just being in favor of asking the question. I think it is a lot harder to be in favor of impeachment.

Speaking of which, as far as I know, no one is writing the Articles of Impeachment. Am I wrong?

SanFranNan has no intention of bringing this to a vote. This is all about harassment of the president, and it’s going to keep going on for the rest of his terms in office.

Why? Because Trump-phobia is an illness, a raging fever, and they simply have not been infected (yet).

MN 7 covers the whole western part of the state, almost exclusively farm country. Probably the only reason Collin Peterson is still in office is the pull he has on the Ag Committee.... and the fact that he’s a pretty good guitar picker!

The Democrat in my Arizona swing district (once McSally’s) isn’t on the list. My guess is she also won’t be on the list of office holders in 2021.

Maybe because there are a few pro America Dems who are NOT insane.

Perhaps they see that their Party can face the same treatment (and the radicals in their own party will use it to attack THEM to gain power).

You are in serious trouble when society (our democracy) endorses ‘The Liar Game’ (where the biggest liar/cheat wins).

If conservatives owned even a slice of the #MSM, someone could hustle Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (TX) for an explanation. Maybe she's just a cautious person, maybe she knows her caution doesn't cost her anything, MAYBE SHE KNOWS THIS CHARADE IS A F&^*NG FARCE AND WANTS TO FOCUS ON SOME BILLS TO HELPS HER PEOPLES.

And if you get one DonkeyCart like that to admit impeachment is 'wrong place, wrong time', then others will follow.

Jared Golden actually lost the election in 2018. He got fewer votes than the Republican incumbent. But because Maine has “ranked choice voting,” third party voters who made him their second choice had their votes counted as votes for him, so he went to Washington.

I live in Maine’s Second Congressional District, which candidate Donald Trump carried by 10 points, earning one electoral vote. At 27,000 square miles, the Second District is the largest congressional district east of the Mississippi.

Incumbent Republican Bruce Poliquin received 2,500 MORE votes than Jared Golden, but neither candidate achieved 50.1% of the vote. The two third party candidates....William Hoar and Tiffany Bond, who doesn’t even live in the district....received 8% of the vote.

The voters who picked them apparently had Jared Golden as their second choice, since he won under the rank choice voting system.

I engaged in bullet voting, meaning I picked only one candidate, Republican Bruce Poliquin.

Jared Golden wants to be elected in 2020, so he is treading carefully.

Give them time. They will be forced to change their views or will sell out to preserve their congressional seats.

Honest, moderate Democrats don’t exist anymore. Only opportunists, cowards, Marxists, and police-hating racists.

There aren’t 12 sane Democrats - they did what Tulsi Gabbard did when she went from being against impeachment to “supporting it”...they waved their fingers around their own political objectives and made the decision on politics and personal situations...not on reason of for ethical reasons.

So in affect they get to vote twice?

This will be all but forgotten by the MSM by Thanksgiving—you heard it here first.

The news cycle moves _very_ fast these days.

The next bright shiny object will hypnotize the Democrats and the media.
