Suicide rates in the military were higher in 2018 compared to the previous five years despite efforts to prevent such deaths, according to an annual Pentagon report released Thursday.
A total of 541 active duty, National Guard and Reserve troops committed suicide last year, the Department of Defense Annual Suicide Report found.
The figure included 187 Army troops, 79 Navy sailors, 77 Marines and 63 Airmen, as well as 118 Army National Guard and 17 Air National Guard members.

The report notes that the Navy had statistically significant increase in suicide rates in the past five years, which Orvis said was a 6 percent average annual increase of deaths year-over-year.
Beginning when WHO was in charge?
So, 2018 was higher than 2013. What about 2017? There could have been a spike from 2013 thru 2016 that leveled off the past two years. Someone might be playing with the numbers.
Can’t blame the military or the Kenyan. These folks had to be screwed up to begin with. Future part of the homeless army.
Without even looking, I’d wager that the navy’s suicide rate is comparable or actually lower than the overall suicide rate in the US.
. . . which would make this a much less alarming story than it was intended to be.
VA puts you through several steps for “suicidal” vets on their lines.
Irritating, but I sympathize with the intent.
yep:
“This years report also indicates that suicide rates for active component and Reserve members are comparable to U.S. population rates . . . “
Sorry, but when you open your ranks to ‘unstable’ people, you are liable to run into ‘problems’.
I know virtually impossible but it would be interesting to find the life style of the ‘victims’ INCLUDING those that may not be able to stand the ‘newbies with ‘problems’.
But these are people who deserve to live. Who have earned that determination.
Add to the mix the fact that sexual assault reports BY MEN have skyrocketed after the social experimenting done by homosexualizing the military. Now, the equivalent of men and women are housed in the same close intimate quarters, a recipe for rape, blackmail and undue influence through coercion by a superior. The subordinate service member in this environment is trapped in a hopeless corner.
That info will never be released, the LBGTQRSTUVLSMFT mafia would never tolerate it.
There’s a whole lot of mens lives ruined by family court rulings after divorce, the press won’t talk about it much and a lot of them kill themselves quietly. Lose the house, barely see your kids, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out this is a major part of the story
Well they are recruiting people who would be mentaly unfit if the APA didn’t say it is normal.
but my other thought is that perhaps the number of homsexuals is a lot higher in the military then say 15 yrs ago, since they were so welcomed by a certain fake prez....
...we know for a fact that homosexuals have more health issues, and a greater tendency to the use of alcohol and drugs, as well as increased rates of domestic violence....
I remember suicides back in 1966-1969. some people cannot take being in the military. I had no problem with it .
True & True.
I was one of what B Clinton called a ‘real Draft Dodger’ by joining the Navy at 17 rather than wait and get drafted by the Army at 18 or 19.
It was 1956 and I grew up in a ‘sheltered’ environment and one of the reason for going in the Service was to get away from Mothers, sisters, big brothers etc etc... Never had an ‘encounter’ with a ‘do funny’ till I was 17 and waiting the month to go in...while walking home one afternoon, some dude pulled over and asked if I wanted a ride, it didn’t ‘sound right’ so I did decline but kind of figured that there were some mighty friendly people around.
I guess I learned what the ‘offered ride’ was all about when I started going on liberty in my dress blues and attracted all sorts of strange people....Of course, even being from a ‘closed environment’ I knew these clowns were up to no good..... but WE all figured the buddy system was the way to do a proper liberty. <: <: <:
I am convinced that part of the reason for all the ‘weirdos’ being allowed in is not only social experimentation but an effort to keep all the virile young men home.....also with the ritalin etal studies into the ‘troubled young men’ in mass shootings, how about extending the studies to those that are offing themselves.
But, like the doorgunner says, ‘NO WAY that data will see the light of day’.
As a veteran of four tours in SEA I can’t understand why so many are stressed out. I know for a fact today every 3 day holiday is now 4 days (the last for family day)...In my 53 months in SEA, if you did catch a break, aux guard duty or filling sandbags...When I was duty in a Tactical Air Command many off days were lost of numerous exercises that ran throughout the week. I was reading yesterday that on one Navy ship there were 5 suicides in the past 2 years.
I retired in 1996, I was that most hated of REMF’s a DAC. However, I did have eyes to see and even at that time it seemed every fourth or fifth soldier I would pass on the street at Hood or Bragg appeared to me to be seriously problematic. Some , I am certain is just the nonsense lower grade EM’s engage in with civilians in base. However, the number of black soldiers that gave me a look of pure hatred was disturbing. For the rest of all colors there were too many who just looked like lost souls or very low functioning. These individuals would find the Army’s operational tempo more than demanding and service in a combat theater a true nightmare.
Sorry that was 2006
This society sets our children up for failure when we tell them all through çhildhood that all of them are winners, all the time. Then, when they grow up and are not winners all the time, they become depressed and suicidal. Throw in social media and building a fake persona and we have an ugly mix that will end with more suicides.
