President Donald Trump used part of his speech before the United Nations Tuesday to warn of the growing accumulation of power by big tech companies.
In one of the Presidents strongest statements on social media bias yet, Trump argued that social media censorship is incompatible with a free society. He also drew attention to the growing trend of censorship, canceling, and blacklisting in general.
We must always be skeptical of those who want conformity and control, said the President. Even in free nations, we see alarming signs and new challenges to liberty.
A small number of social media platforms are acquiring immense power, over what we can see and over what we are allowed to say, he continued.
A permanent political class is openly disdainful, dismissive and defiant of the will of the people. A faceless bureaucracy operates in secret and weakens democratic rule. Media and academic institutions push flat-out assaults on our histories, traditions and values.
In the United States, my administration has made clear to social media companies that we will uphold the right of free speech.
Trumps statements put him at odds with globalist political leaders, who want social media platforms to engage in more censorship, not less. At a summit dubbed the Christchurch Call for Action earlier this year, the leaders of France, Germany, Britain, and New Zealand demanded social media platforms clamp down on violent extremism.
President Trumps White House publicly refused to co-sign the call for action.
Censorship and discrimination on the basis of political viewpoint have become widespread across big tech platforms. As Breitbart News revealed earlier this year, Facebook maintains a list of political figures and commentators that it considers potential hate agents. And Google-owned YouTube has deliberately reordered its search results in response to ideological complaints from left-wing journalists.

Shot across the bow of FB et al.
Basically, any device or institution having sway over a collective should not have freedom of speech but be held accountable if it promotes lies and inaccuracies that could yield to trouble.
Also , just as it is illegal for a restaurant to refuse blacks for work or services, youtube demonetization process at the behest of Visa or Mastercard is absolutely illegal.
>>Shot across the bow of FB et al.
I weary of meaningless “shots across the bow”. Cross the tee and rake them stem to stern until they are nothing but burning, sinking hulks and then chum the waters to let the sharks take their minions.
My answer? Duckduckgo.
I left FB a few years ago. I knew that they were censoring from my own experience and from the experience of friends. Also, I saw some people whose lives I knew personally change their history to clean up that history on FB, making themselves into different people than they were. There are some interesting fairy tales on that piece of technology and a bit of genius on the part of Zuckerberg and his buddies who developed FB. They played on a flawed human psychology sure to win in a format which could clean up personal history. Now, the whole nation is in danger because of the power of the puppet masters.
It was a fantastic speech. I played the entire speech for a friend who had no idea DJT had even spoken to the UN yesterday. I also played him the speech in Houston the day before to 50,000 at NRG stadium with PM Modi of India. Damn news won’t cover the actual news.
Its not just well known tech giants, such as the hosting service that cut off 8chan.
i liked your message, i wish i had the time to relate my own stories. it changed some friends for the worse, i noticed it was unhealthy for me, i disconnected from it. a lot of friends thought it was weird that i disconnected from it (and many of them) but it was the best decision
Wouldn’t it be much easier to have these platforms set up separate sections within their application for people who want to engage in political discourse? This way there is no censorship.
What we need are antitrust actions against Alphabet, Facebook and Twitter. No more warnings - just act.
