Earlier on Monday, Israeli-Arab lawmakers recommended that former army chief Mr Gantz should become prime minister.
The Joint List, a bloc of Arab parties that came third in the election, said it wanted to remove Mr Netanyahu from power.
It was the first time since 1992 that an Arab political group has issued an endorsement for an Israeli prime minister.
Ayman Odeh, leader of the Joint List, told President Rivlin that his alliance's priority was to prevent Mr Netanyahu from serving another term.
The Joint List won 13 seats in the election. If Mr Gantz had the endorsement of all 13 seats, he would still fall short of the 61 seats needed for a majority in the 120-seat legislature.
Last week's election was called after coalition talks collapsed following April's poll.

My guess is, the smaller parties (including Liberman’s) will be squeezed out, Gantz will take a cabinet post, and the coalition “unity” gov’t will last less than 18 months. Gantz fully expects to undermine Likud with this deal, and he’s probably going to succeed — but not to his own ultimate political benefit.

When Iran launches missiles at Israel, they will be glad that Bibi is the Prime Minister.
And that, is where the Rubber Will Meet the Road.
Complacency kills.
Yup. And if he's not PM, they'll bust him out of jail and *make* him PM again when the rockets start to rain down. The 1973 Yom Kippur War cracked the Labor Party's long hold on power (you'll notice that they've dwindled from one of the two large parties down to an also-ran); when the next attack comes, Israel's response to that attack will probably ensure there will be no further attacks.
I have read that Obama operatives have been in Israel advising those who want Bibi out. You dont suppose they advised that BALLOT HARVESTING would defeat the sides who want Israel to survive, do you?

Benjamin Netanyahu Is No Longer Israels Indispensable Leader
OMG, the hyperbole! Do you really believe PM Gantz, former Chief of Staff of the IDF, would allow missiles to rain down on Israel?
Really?
When it comes to defending Israel Gantz is just as qualified
if not more so. Not only has he an impressive military career, Likud lost the soldier vote for the first time
to Gantz; - and Gantz's word is solid, having more meaning than self-serving pomp.
Gantz is a former IDF Chief of Staff and two of his top supporters are also former IDF Chiefs of Staff. No one is going to panic if Netanyahu is not there.
OMG, your hyperbole!
