According to the British Medical Association's world-renowned journal, The Lancet, cold weather kills 20 times as many people as hot weather. In an international study analyzing over 74 million deaths in 384 locations across 13 countries, by far the most deaths are caused by moderately cold temperatures.

This is well-know and fairly well understood. Every 1 degree C. higher the surface air temp, on a global average, yields a predictable decrease in overall mortality. Just as every additional week in the average growing season --- due to warmth pushing back the first frost date ---results in *big* increases in crop success and food.

I'm stumped.

Growing Degree Days is a term for the amount of heat available for the crops to grow and mature.

Minnesota is at about 80% of normal this year. This is global cooling for real.
