My opposite opinion:

I know where everything is. I threw it in that cabinet, and it is there. It only takes me a brief moment to see it, and I keep a handy flashlight with magnet on the kitchen refrigerator just for that purpose.

The time I do not spend organizing my shelves is time to do other things (I don’t crotchet)...

I am just shocked, SHOCKED I tell you, that you do not crochet ..... LOL!!!

My dad has his garage “organized” similarly to your cabinets ... he knows where everything is i.e. which ‘pile’. For example, we had someone break a water pipe & we needed a shutoff valve... figured we’d be making a trip to the hardware store. Oh no, not necessary ... dad said “hmmm, I think I have one of those somewhere, just saw it the other day ... let’s see ... this pile, nope I think it was this one over here (rummage, rummage) here it is!!”

My mom threatens periodically to “reorganize/clean/straighten up” the garage ... I have told her absolutely not - once dad is ‘gone’, she can clean to her heart’s content, but as long as he’s around, NO. It would ‘kill’ him if his piles were disturbed and he could no longer find anything.
