Never before has a boon to public health been met with such hysteria and ingratitude.
Vaping is almost all upside in comparison with traditional smoking, a wanton destroyer of health and lives, and yet the nation is in the grip of a panic about e-cigarettes.
In a rarity for the Trump era, the anti-vaping sentiment jumps traditional geographic and political bounds, running from the Oval Office to San Francisco, from President Donald Trump to his most fervent enemies.
Trump announced a Food and Drug Administration ban on flavored e-cigarettes last week, while not too long ago the San Francisco Board of Supervisors banned the sale of vaping products at retail outlets and seemingly more persnickety about this than, say, the use of heroin or public defecation prohibited their delivery to addresses in the city.

I avoid people with immediately obvious obsessive-compulsive behaviors. By doing so, I avoid people with less obvious repulsive behaviors. People with facial piercings, using e-cigarettes and bad language, probably are also on welfare, or smell bad, or are otherwise disruptive.
It works.
I used to have to drive by a methadone clinic. You could see the gamut of these related behaviors. You couldn’t tell who had AIDS, but you could tell which ones probably did by their huffing on nicotine machines.
To me Trump is batting way over .900. This is a minor issue. I guess nobody bats a thousand.
Im sure shadow VP Ivanka called this shot.
Many of the same politicians rending their garments about vaping are totally open to legalizing marijuana which is typically smoked. Doesnt marijuana deliver a concoction of chemicals into the lungs? There is certainly more evidence of the health dangers of marijuana than e- cigarettes yet politicians seem to have no problem with expanding the smoking of marijuana.
I think it's more of a case of getting bad data and making decisions based on that bad data.
Having a lesser form of the same disease (love of Arbitrary government) is not the same as being disease free.
We were not given a President who would save the nation by kicking the legacy of FDR and all that is built on it to the curb to restore governance by constitutional means, we got Trump. He’s a mixed bag as they’ve all been since Eisenhower, who could have saved us with little pain, became Mr No Repeal instead.
Vaping kids are the parents problem. Vaping adults are their own problem. I do not see an issue that needs the force of government arms. Trump should have made a statement that reinforced freedom and personal responsibility instead of reinforcing the nanny state.
He could have even said, smoke em if you have em but you will lose eligibility for free Ocare.
The recent deaths and injuries to a small number of people don’t have anything to with nicotine vaping. To my understanding, it is vaping adulterated black market THC product. They are supposedly buying from medical dispensaries, and then stretching it with some sort of vitamin E oil and then selling it on the street. That doesn’t mean there aren’t huge numbers of kids vaping nicotine and THC. But yeesh it’s already illegal for them to do that, just like it’s illegal to buy black market THC vaping product.
Freegards
Yes, Juul is probably responsible for the current nonsense, popularizing 5% nicotine in fruit flavors that became trendy for kids in school.
A c-store manager showed me a printout of the ages on IDs scanned for Juul products. 90% were ages 18 or 19, and schools report in-school vaping. That was a couple years ago, and given nanny state attitudes some severe restriction was inevitable.
I think you are right.

Since FR has no LIKE button let me say I LIKE your post.
Just wait for the reaction when someone determines that tattoos and body piercings are dangerous (in some way) to one’s health. Do you think that the anti-smoking and anti-vaping forces will react the same way?
Compare to the 480,000 or so who die of tobacco related illnesses every year.
Which industry is about to have the full weight of the federal government attempt to crush it?
Hint: It's not the one that "gives" $10s of millions in bribes, uh, campaign contributions every year...
” teen smoking is down to 6% in the latest surveys, the lowest it’s ever been.”
However, vaping exceeds the previous smoker count. More teens vape than ever smoked.
+1! Children are their primary market and it is evil to plan your companys financial future on people you got addicted in middle school. Give the kids a whistle pop and a dentist appointment and call it good.
Because being addicted to cigarettes is so much better? How is it our problem what other peoples kids do? We cannot police the whole world, and we cannot police other people’s kids.
I'd also like to see reliable data on what percentage smoked tobacco before vaping even existed vs how many smoke tobacco now.
This thread is full of nonsense. The cigarette companies have become major players in the vaping business by making huge investments... including RJ Reynolds. https://www.rjrvapor.com/
My sister-in-law just visited us for a little over a week. My wife's “little” sister has destroyed her health with smoking, vaping, drinking, prescription drugs, candy, eating too much, and almost complete inactivity. She is only 61 and we had to push her around in a wheel chair all week. She drove us crazy.
We made her smoke outside, but she was sneaking her marijuana vaping in her room then disguising the odor with air fresheners. It was like having a geriatric teen living with us. The crap made my wife and I and the dog all feel sick. My wife and I both agreed that she is never staying in our house again.
They will not. Teen aged girls can get abortions in clinics without parental notification but they cannot vape.
I’m not sure. She lives 1000 miles away, and the last time I saw her she was pretending to be smoke free, but I saw her vaping in the backyard.
She is on constant oxygen and several expensive inhalers.
