Ed sent me a spreadsheet in which he ran through the FBI’s most recent statistics for murder by firearms and found 10,982 in total in 2017, of which exactly 403 were committed with rifles — a rate of 3.67 percent. There were many more murders committed by “unknown firearms” but even assuming (falsely) that every last one was committed with an assault rifle, that would still put the total of murders by rifle at just a third or so of all firearms murders.

Isn’t that where gun control regimes that the Left want to implement end up? Some countries allows shotguns and single shot weapons but the ability to own a semi-auto no way.

Does this poor sap actually think the government will keep illegal gun from crossing the border just like they keep tons of illegal drugs from crossing the borders which are fairly easy to detect or keep out thousands of illegal aliens from crossing the border which are really easy to detect?

Why shouldn’t we teach all youth, and as much of the adult population who are relatively unenlightened, about the customs, care, grooming, and proper respect for ALL firearms?
It is ignorance about firearms and their potential for either good or evil that is at the root of most of these mass slayings.
Firearms have a purpose, and that is either to stop a living creature from harming ourselves, or as a means of harvesting game in the field, for later consumption.
Sometimes, the “living creature” is an armed man with malice intent. Self-defense is a perfectly adequate reason to return fire upon those who mean you harm.

I have a news article in my collection that was written around the time of the handgun buyback program in the United Kingdom following the 1996 Dunblane murders (Project Snowdrop, IIRC). The article contained an interview with frontline police officers who were charged with receiving people who were turning in rare heirlooms and/or expensive Olympic target shooting pistols.
These officers said that their issue with the ban was not that it was too strict but that it was basically incoherent. They were far more likely to see sawed off shotguns or rifles (as well as knives or clubs) in the commission of violent offences as opposed to the items that were being turned in. Therefore, it is not surprising that the FBI statistics would likely tell a similar story here and now that basically challenges and contradicts the public image that someone like Beto wants to create with banning certain types of firearms.
A double-action revolver is a semi-automatic weapon.

Their final end goal is “no firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizen’s hands”.
They want most of us dead, the rest in chains.
Any citizenry being told to downsize their weapons should beware of the goals of their government. Fascists, communists and socialists want their people to be unarmed. And it isn’t because of a small percentage of people being murdered. They are looking at the big picture and so should we.
That would also ban revolvers. He’d had to go back to single-bullet guns, like the flintlock. We, as in the law abiding citizens. The criminals can still outgun us whenever they want.
