No one should be surprised by this. It's known as FOMO or Fear Of Missing Out. It appears that the US is going to end "Catch and Release" and secure the border. Any aliens who had the notion of getting in realize that this may be the last chance. It is the same motivator that causes AR-15s to sell out when Beto says he's gonna grab them.
