I wonder if they feel the same way about other crazed / apocalyptic America-hating regimes developing nuke arsenals? Or do they just have a particular soft spot for the Islamic Republic of Iran for whatever reason?
The old nuclear deterrence strategy (Mutually Assured Destruction —MAD) that worked so well during The Cold War won’t work with regimes ruled by psychotics and mad mullahs. Many seem to have a hard time grasping that reality.
Why wouldn't they?
MAD is only necessary in a conflict of superpowers. Having a long war with another superpower is something to be avoided. Pissant tyrants that would have no chance against us in a war need have their nuclear weapon facilities blown to pieces if they become a national security threat.
